Before being colonized, Monteverde was inhabited by Corobici Indians. About 60 years ago nine Quaker families from the U.S founded the original community of Monteverde, as they sought a peaceful and natural place to live in.

The tourism zone of Monteverde is world renowned for its efforts in the conservation and because of a lifestyle centered in the respect of the nature

Santa Elena is the main town and hub to a variety of services. The Cerro Plano community (where the Hotel El Viandante is located) hosts a great number of hotels, restaurants, art galleries, tours amongst other attractions.

For those who love nature and wish to enjoy the best mountain hotels in our country and a variety of quality services, Monteverde is the place par excellence.

One of the most famous reserves in Costa Rica is the Monteverde Cloud Forest, located at the peak of the continental divide.
