About the hotel

WELCOME

Experience the beauty of Costa Rican nature, culture and hospitality!

Overlooking a fresh water river and lush tropical forests there is “Something for Everyone” at La Carolina Lodge, where our family friendly environment offers a unique “Pure Costa Rica” experience.

Nestled on the eastern slopes of Volcano Tenorio, the home of the famous Rio Celeste Waterfall, in Northwestern Costa Rica, our 170-acre ranch and farm welcomes you to “A Place Like No Other”.

There is something for everyone at La Carolina Lodge! Enjoy a refreshing swim in our crystal clear river, relax in our one-of-a-kind wood-fired hot tub, sun on the deck, walk through our lush tropical forest, bird watch while sitting in comfort on the veranda, horse ride through our meadows, milk cows, and much more.

On site Costa Rican wildlife includes a vast array of birds, including toucans, parrots, hummingbirds, Montezuma Oropendola and many more. Their daily visits to our feeders are sure to delight both the advanced and novice bird watchers.

Tropical mammals include monkeys, sloths, anteaters, kinkajous and coitis. The colourful frogs and butterflies, including the giant Morpho, are a sight to behold. A stroll around our property will bring you into contact with many bromeliads, wild orchids and other flora.

La Carolina Lodge offers private cabins. Accommodation includes:

Three extraordinary typical Costa Rican meals per day
Fruit Juices, Tea & Coffee
Daily housekeeping
Activities as indicated

Alcohol: Guests are welcome to bring their own.
As the Lodge does not serve alcohol, please purchase prior to arrival. Larger towns have the greatest selection, whilst smaller local towns have a more limited supply. The local cantina (1km) has a very basic offering and is open during irregular hours.

Whilst a 2 night minimum stay is required, to truly appreciate “Pure Costa Rica”, we highly recommended a 3 or 4 night experience.

Water Safety
Our high quality spring fed water, drinkable from any tap at the Lodge, comes from the mountains high above the lodge beside the National Park.

Phone & Internet
Unplug and relax! To enhance our stress-free and peaceful environment, we do not offer cell phone or Internet reception at the Lodge. (FYI: Bijagua nearby offers Internet cafes with high speed Internet)

Lit by Candlelight (ELECTRICITY)
To add to your overall Pure Costa experience, each evening the main Lodge and cabins are aglow with candles. There is, however limited electricity in the cabins and lodge. We do recommend you bring a flashlight.

As part of our extended family, our wonderful caring staff helps create the “Pure Costa Rica” that we are so proud to share with you. Please join us and enjoy the experience! By employing local Ticos from the surrounding area we help to support the communities around us. We also assist the nearby villages by repairing and renovating schools, supporting students and initiating social activities. By choosing La Carolina Lodge you are assisting us in this mission.

Thank you. Bill and Karien Harwell
