National Geographic

National Geographic in 1999 called the South Pacific of Costa Rica and Corcavado National park, "the most biologically intense place on planet earth." Playa Pavones and the Castle of Costa Rica hotel restaurant, also known as Castillo De Pavones, is one of the most unique hotels to see animals, birds, flora and fauna. The Castle is built right in front of the ocean, and next to the Guyami Indian Reservation. You are literally at the end of the road in Costa Rica, surrounded by pure misty rain forest. Playa Pavones and the Punta Banco area are the southern most towns in Costa Rica and are, by far, the most pristine and remote. The small town of Pavones boasts amazing world class cuisine, many small hotels and many adventure activities. Pavones is most famous for it long left wave, which has always been called the second longest left wave on earth. Now with the internet, many people, pro surfers and travelers are calling it the longest big wave point break on earth. It is also a great place to learn to surf because as the wave wraps the point it gets smaller and smaller until it fades into the sunset.
