My husband and I stayed two nights and thoroughly enjoyed all the hotel had to offer. Andres (the manager) is very nice and helpful and gives his personal opinions about where to eat, etc.
He definitely makes the place special and makes other feel special as well. The room (G) is fabulous! Great two story unit with hardwoods, tall and long bar/table with large tinted picture windows, open air shower, very trendy decor and clean!
The interior bar/table provides the perfect place to sit and watch the iguanas and monkeys playing in the trees. You can watch the monkeys in your pj's, as no one can see in unless you have the lights on! A truly unique boutique hotel! A great little find in the midst of paradise!

I just got back from 3 weeks travelling in Costa Rica ... This is my first time writting a review and I want to because I booked this hotel based on other travellers reviews on trip advisor so I hope all of you find my review just as helpful! Let's talk history, I found out from Fabian that this hotel is owned by a asian couple from New York who come by every few months. Let's talk location, this hotel isover midway between Quepos and Manuel Antonio and on the highest part of a high hill so on the other side of the street where the hotel is you see breathtaking views of the pacific ocean. There's cafe Milagro nearby for meals, Agua Azul across the street (lunch and dinner only) with amazing view of the ocean while dining! The restaurant owners own the house right beside the hotel. Go to Le Mariposa across the street down a road a bit it's resort and the restaurant Le Papillon inside has really yummy food but more expensive afterall it's a resort! I loved how the hotel is walking distance away from a Super Joseph (grocery market) so you can buy things and store them in your mini fridge at the hotel and walking distance away from a BCR so you can easily exchange more USD into colones. It's a 20 minute wlak to the beach but the bus stops there and back are really close to the hotel and the bus takes 5 mins and costs 50 cents. Let's talk hotel ... Fabian and the other guy were very nice and helpful! I had alot of questions. I originally booked a studio and when I check in I was runnin low on money and they were kind enuff to let me view the rooms and downgrade me to a standard (whihc honestly wasn't that much of a downgrade cause the room was great and saved me $20 a night!). The rooms are look exactly like the pictures on their website and have all the amenities listed! My room was really cute it has a few stairs that led to the bedroom then a few other stairs that led to the bathroom (kinda felt like a small bungalow). The reception is a small little office and there one computer where you can use free 15 minutes of internet for free a day or pay, they also have beach towels that you can use and return, they can book tours for you (I recommend Fourtrax ATV tour!). In the showers they have shampoo and soap for you! The towels and linens smell nice and are of high grade. The bed was huge I got a king size bed and comfortable. I can go on and on the rooms were good! As the other traveler mentioned I also got a 1.5L of water when I checked in, a plus! There is some construction going on near the pool area to create a dinning area where they will be offering bfast in the new year ... I didn't use the pool cause I went to the beach everyday btu it's nice and they have nice comfy sun tanning long chairs to lie in. The only bad thing I have to say about this hotel than the other 8 I stayed in Costa Rica is that the staff leave at 9PM and the premises are not guard watched or locked and enclosed. I only mention this cause I was a single girl traveller, I'm sure others would feel safer. The other tip you need to know is TRY to pay in USD or colones cause your credit card companies will charge soem crazy fees I have to pay an extra 40 for my 2 nights stay cause I paid with my Visa only cause I ran out of money.

“Great time at the Mandarina”

I found this hotel online and decided to check it out. Had a great rate and it rained quite a bit so I was forced to stay in my room a bit more than usual, as everything seems to be so quiet in Manuel Antonio in the rain. I had a nice time at the Mandarina. The rooms were trendy and cozy, comfortable mattress, clean, good tv, with cable to keep up with news -Im a news freak, and I liked the split level nature of the rooms. We reserved a small room and it came with coffee, and coffeemaker and a fridge very nice. Purchase your food at Pali in Quepos, Do the Canopy Safari Tour and the hotel has a computer you can use, and a nice pool. Cafe Milagro is nice as is the Blue Marlin by the park's entrance. The park is nice and you can see monkeys at the hotel and eat all the mangos that fall from the trees. Randall the desk agent was a hoot and good reference for resturants tours and sites to see. Very nice and friendly. The room was a small $55 and well worth it and more. I would definitely go back.

From Boothbay Harbor, ME Dec. 4, 2008

We stayed in the brand new apartment, which is right up near the road and has an ocean view from the dining room and the two chairs right outside. Others might be happier tucked away in the back of the hotel where it's quiet, but we loved being able to sit and watch the world go by, even if we didn't get to see a sunset. The apartment has a large dining room, living room and kitchen and would sleep two adults and two kids comfortably. Like the rest of the hotel, it is decorated in bright but classy tropical colors, with gleaming floors and fun accessories. We had a lot of fun filling the fridge with treats from the nearby supermarket and making our own breakfasts and lunches. All of this together made Mandarina an extremely good value over the other lodging I had considered, such as Costa Verde, and it was much more authentic.

Managers Fabian and Andres were wonderful and happily answered our every question. The hotel recommended and booked our canopy tour, which was also a blast. Lots of great restaurants nearby, including Kapi Kapi (gotta be the best in town for a fancier meal) and Milagro for awesome coffee, breakfast and lunch.

Wildlife lovers might also be excited to know that Mandarina seems to be a major monkey hangout. We sat in front of the apartment and watched as a group of about seven white-faced monkeys walked along the fenceline and munched away on the trees right above.

My only caveat is to make sure the current construction is complete if using the pool is important to you. I didn't feel comfortable going down for a swim with four or five workers standing around...
