La Chosa del Manglar

La Chosa del Manglar is a tropical garden lodge sitting on a 4 acre property which wild animals traverse twice dialy, once in the morning and again in the afternoon. The lodge is a camouflaged collection of modern cabanas, suites, and rooms supplemented by raised trail-ways, bridges, open-air lounges and a tree-top deck. All of these modern comforts are strategically built for viewing the never-ending stream of animal action which occurs 24/7 on the property.

Nuzzled in a strip of jungle-land which pierces the neighborhoods of a small, travel friendly beach-town, the large grounds are part of a main diurnal and nocturnal throughway for a diverse collection of exotic animals. A stay here, is a true jungle experience but within a 5-minute walk from the Osa Peninsula’s human center: Puerto Jimenez. Visitors routinely report that they see more wildlife here than at many other Costa Rica locations.

Common wildlife sightings on the property include: Four species of Monkeys, Kinkajous, Raccoons, Coatis, Anteaters, Sloths, Armadillos, Raptors, Toucans, Scarlet Macaws, Crocodiles, Lizards, Snakes, Hummingbirds, Iguanas and many other Birds, Insects and Reptiles. We created La Chosa to give people a tropical lodge experience at a reasonable price. Most of the lodging options are in the $30 - $80 range, although there are a few higher and lower options available. Our accommodations are for people looking for simple, authentic experiences without pampering. However, we do vigorously maintain a modern level of cleanliness and comfort amidst the primeval Osa jungle and wild tropical waters of the Pacific. The Chosa was designed as a hub to relax and transition into, or out of, the intensely magical Osa peninsula. Adjacent to the rich Pacific waters of the Golfo Dulce and within short drives to world-class beaches great for surfing and the Osa’s primary travel destination: Corcovado National Park. Separate from La Chosa’s central property, we also offer a remote Beach Cabin and an even more remote Mountain Cabin in the interior of the Osa overlooking Corcovado National Park. If you a planning a one night stay at La Chosa please consider extending your stay. Many of our guests who book for one night end up staying for another night or two which really lets them enjoy the property and all it has to offer.

We're only a 2 minute walk to Puerto Jimenez airport, National Park office & several car rental companies. A five minute walk to the town-center (large grocery, various small stores, tour operators, banks, gas station, bike rentals, boutique’s, bus station, taxi’s, etc.) A five minute walk to Puerto Jimenez beachfront (sandy beach, town dock, several restaurants, bars, boat tour operators, kayak rentals and mangroves).

While visiting la Chosa you will have the option to enjoy such things as WIFI coverage throughout a large part of the property, Please note that we have recently designated a "Wifi Free" zone where there is no WIFI coverage, this area includes our Classic rooms and Mangorve cabins. You can also take advantage of the communal kitchen, bar and lounge, expert local advice and arrangement of guides and tourist services, several open air lounges, night lighting, property walking trail, access to $2.00 cold beer, juice & sodas, free car parking, free bicycle parking, night watchman, free coffee and tea, wake up knocks, safe at reception for document storage and finally receipt of your faxes.

FYI La Chosa is a true birder’s paradise - you don't need to leave the property to see impressive Macaws, Toucans, Tanagers, Fly-Catchers and numerous other varieties of exotic birds playing throughout the gardens. We are expanding our onsite trails, as well as adding some unique chill spots so you may better view the flora and fauna. Make sure you walk the trails with your cameras ready.
